This legislation is designed to tie Social Security reform (which means cuts to our benefits) with the government’s “debt ceiling” increase.
Social Security is not a hostage – nor is it a bargaining chip! Social Security is a sacred promise made to me, you, and millions of hard working Americans who spent a lifetime earning our benefits by paying taxes so that one day (TODAY) our benefits would be there for us.
For Congress to tie a routine debt ceiling increase with OUR Social Security benefits while simultaneously “fast tracking” H.R.3423 IS OUTRAGEOUS!
President Trump repeatedly said that he didn’t want to cut Social Security, our earned and promised benefits – the income Seniors and Retirees like us depend on.
President Trump said it was his intention to leave Social Security as it is. But the experts are projecting that in as little as 12 years Social Security will not be able to pay out full benefits to Seniors and retirees unless something is done to shore up the program.
That “something” is called “reform” and it frightens me that Congress is now tying a routine debt ceiling raise with this special “Social Security Commission” whose goal is to reduce our benefits!
Will the President stand up to lawmakers proposing these cuts to our benefits? Will Seniors and retirees demand Congress VOTE NO on H.R.3423?
Not knowing what will happen to Social Security is something that keeps me up at night, and I’m sure you have been anxious as to what will likely happen to our retirement income, especially since Congress just short-changed us (AGAIN) and found a way to make our annual COLA a miserable 0.2% back in January – only about $3 per month!
The federal government would never describe one of their “reform” plans as a Social Security benefit cut. They wouldn’t dare say that. They know as soon as they mention “benefit cuts” they will lose the support of a large and powerful voting block of Seniors and Retirees.
But the goal of the commission is to enact reform proposals and that means – Social Security benefit cuts! HERE’S ARE JUST SOME OF THE REFORMS ALREADY BEFOR CONGRESS:
Raising the full Retirement Age from 67 to 69. Those under 62 today are targeted. This reform keeps Seniors from their benefits for an additional 2 years.
The Social Security Administration to begin using the Chain-Weighted CPI (instead of the CPI-E) to determine Social Security COLAs for Seniors in 2018. This is the worst possible method for determining the proper cost of living adjustment, even worse than what was used this year. This reform keeps Seniors from getting their correct benefit amount.
NO COLAs for Seniors and Retirees if their adjusted gross income exceeds $85,000 (single) or $170,000 (joint). This reform is what’s called “means testing” — it is designed to deny Seniors their earned and promised Social Security benefits because “they’re too well off.”
My friend, if our voices aren’t heard, if H.R3423 and other Social Security Reforms are passed during the debt ceiling negotiations – the Social Security Board of Trustees has said Seniors and Retirees would be subjected to an across the board 21% DECREASE in our monthly Social Security checks. We cannot let Washington tell us if, when, and how much our earned and promised Social Security benefits will be cut. Nor can we let greedy politicians looking to spend, spend, spend negotiate the debt ceiling as they hold our Social Security benefits hostage!
Seniors and Retired Americans must reject all attempts from lawmakers who wish to pass “reforms” instead of reigning in their own out-of-control spending. Seniors and Retirees cannot afford to sit back, wait, and see what happens with the negotiations in Congress over the debt ceiling… especially when the measures being discussed could have life-long, devastating effects on our income.
There has never been a better time, than now, to speak up and demand Congress REJECT the so called “Social Security Commission” and OPPOSE H.R.3423
Senior Citizens and Retirees are a potent force when we raise our voices. And there is an urgent need for us to influence our Social Security benefits for years to come, with a President who is on record “not wanting to cut Social Security for anybody.” Help us hold this Congress accountable to Senior Citizens and Retirees — Help US DEFEAT H.R.3423 “the Social Security Commission.”
Think about it: you’ve just gotten one of the worst COLAs, ever, and now the D.C. politicians are proposing a “Social Security Commission” with H.R.3423 to reform Social Security and cut our benefits even more! If we don’t act together and raise our voices OPPOSING SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM, we could lose even more benefits in 2018.
Senior Citizens will pay a heavy price if the big spenders in Washington keep pushing Social Security to the brink. Many experts are already advocating for deep benefit cuts. BUT BY WORKING TOGETHER, WE CAN STOP THEM.
