Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reports that 19,723 criminal aliens released by “Sanctuary Cities” last year committed 64,197 new crimes, including terrorism, rape, child sexual assault, arson, and 208 murders.
Sanctuary Cities are keeping local law enforcement officers from doing their jobs by cooperating with federal officials. Sanctuary cities are creating serious obstacles for the war on terror – THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! Just recently, Jeh Johnson (Secretary of Homeland Security) visited Philadelphia with a modest request. He asked Mayor Jim Kenney to make an exception to Philadelphia’s sanctuary city policy, so local police could help find suspected terrorists.
Mayor Kenney refused. Kenney insisted on maintaining the city’s policy, which forbids Philly police from sharing information with federal officials unless the illegal aliens had already been convicted of a violent felony and the federal agents had a warrant. THIS IS ABSURD! Imagine if the FBI suspects that an individual, who is in the U.S. illegally, is plotting a terror attack. The Feds want to find the suspected terrorist, so they ask the Philadelphia police for information. But under the city’s sanctuary city policy, Philly police cannot help and must respond, “we can only help AFTER the suspected terrorist has committed an act of terror.”
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? HOW DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE?
America has already seen too many deadly terror attacks — September 11th, the Boston Marathon bombing, the attacks in San Bernardino, the horrible massacre in Orlando, and recently Ahmad Rahami’s bombs in New York and New Jersey. How many more attacks, how many more lives lost, are needed before we take this threat of terrorism seriously?
I have seen enough. And I think you agree with me. We must fight back! That’s why I’m hoping you will return your signed petition urging Washington to TAKE ACTION NOW! We must pass S. 3100 “The Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act.” This legislation has just been introduced in the Senate, it has been endorsed by a variety of law enforcement organizations, and it tackles two problems Americans face in fighting terrorism:
First, it says sanctuary cities are not eligible for some federal funds. This encourages such cities to stop their dangerous policies and reverse course because sanctuary cities add enormous costs on America — extra costs to the federal government for finding terrorists, extra costs to the American people of more crime, and the incalculable costs to people like the Steinle family who’ve lost so much! The American taxpayer should not be subsidizing these jurisdictions!!
Second, it says that local police cannot be held liable for the federal government’s error – this lets local police cooperate fully with federal authorities without fear of being sued and removes any continuing justification for any locality to be a sanctuary city.
The threats we face are alarming: ISIS is using the Internet in unprecedented ways to call for attacks on American soil. The FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and National Counterterrorism Center have each warned of an extremely high volume of terrorist “chatter” on pro-ISIS social media sites claiming there is so much activity that our intelligence agencies are having a hard time keeping up with it all.
With terrorist threats to our homeland at an all-time high, local and federal officers should AT LEAST be working together to protect Americans, wouldn’t you agree?
